MNL Hostel; Budget Stay in Boracay
Finding a cheap accommodation is a little hard in Boracay especially during peak season. Almost all the rates of the hotels, hostels, lodges and guesthouses go up. This is a budget traveler’s nightmare. Now, it’s just a matter of finding the right one for you that fits your budget and your degree of comfort.
As traveling couples, we’re not fan of dorms. We like the privacy but we don’t mind if it’s just a fan room or shared bathroom. Since it’s our wedding anniversary, we love to have an upgrade to our comfort but still within our budget. I searched for hostels and hotels in Boracay but almost all of their rates start at P2000. Good thing I found MNL hostel. I booked a Double air-conditioned room with ensuite bathroom for 2 nights for 1975 per night. Just a little less than 2000 but what I liked more is its location (Station 2) and amenities.
Here’s my review of the accommodation. Please read on.
It’s not beachfront but for me, its location is ok. It is situated near Bulabog beach (kite surfing area) in station 2 and walking distance to d’mall (5 minutes) and white beach (8-10 minutes). There are restaurants, eateries and stores nearby so you won’t have any problems when hungry.
MNL Hostel is a cool hip place to stay and it has the amenities that you are looking for in a hostel. I especially love their roof deck as it has a kitchen, fridge, unlimited water, billiard table, a hammock and beverages that you can buy. This is where they serve free breakfast and hold their barbeque night for P200 each but we didn’t avail it.
Breakfast consists of bread, fried/boiled egg, fruits, juice, coffee and tea. You can also refill your water here anytime so no need to buy bottled water outside.
Their lobby looks like a modern living room where everyone can enjoy watching TV together.
You can always ask for their help if you need something. There’s always someone stationed in the reception which is a good thing. Though not every staff has a smiling face, it’s ok as long as they do their work.
Surprisingly, the quality and cleanliness of the room was above our expectations. It has a nice, positive, beachy vibe in it as shown in its cool artsy wall designs.
It has an inverter type air-condition which cools the room quickly. Just note that they turn it off I think between 2pm to 5pm to save electricity. So if you really want air-conditioning all the time then take this into consideration. They have an electric fan for you to use whenever the air-con is out. The good thing is they have a generator running when there’s no electricity in the island which we think is a common occurrence there.
It has an LED TV (which we didn’t expect) with cable where I got to watch NBA games and my wife Eat Bulaga lol. The toilet is clean and fairly new which my wife really loved since she hates dirty bathrooms. It has a rainfall type of shower head with heater but they also turn this off during the time I mentioned above.
The bed is comfortable and soft with clean sheets which is all we ask for in a room besides a clean toilet. There’s also a safety box where you can put your money and other important belongings.
How to Book
Or directly in their website
But if you’re happy with my review, then please book it in Agoda through my link above. It won’t cost you any extra charge. 🙂
We had a great stay in MNL Hostel. We even spent hours in our room during noontime just to watch TV and relax. We were very pleased in its cleanliness and colourful, outgoing vibe. Though we didn’t get to know some travelers here, I’m pretty sure you’ll end up being friends with someone as the overall atmosphere here suggest that you socialize. This is especially true for solo travelers who plans to stay in the dorms.
